The Wonthaggi RSL Sub Branch Committee would like to acknowledge and thank the Bass Coast Council Quick Response Grant Team for their timely support with a $2,000 Quick Response Grant awarded in the latter half of 2025.
This funding enabled the Committee to action, accelerate and enhanced awareness of our newly developed website, www.wonthaggirsl.org.au, via the implementation of a foundational Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) program delivered across the final months of 2025 and into early 2026. This initiative has significantly strengthened our local and regional digital presence, rapidly leveraged website assets and driven awareness of the many projects high value projects being undertaken by the Wonthaggi RSL Sub Branch Committee in support of Veteran welfare and recognition.
Project Objectives
The primary objective of this project was to implement a professional SEO strategy to improve both online and physical visibility of the Sub Branch and provide an out stretched hand to engage Veterans by leveraging digital connectivity and optimising our new website.
Key goals included:
- Increasing the profile of Wonthaggi RSL Sub Branch among veterans across Victoria
- Strengthening engagement with the existing membership by providing greater transparency
- Enhancing visibility within the Wonthaggi and broader Bass Coast communities
- Delivering a targeted outreach program to engage younger veterans, particularly those who have served in recent Middle Eastern conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan
- Streamline Sub Branch administrative functions and communication with the membership
Project Outcomes
Made possible with receipt of Bass Coast Council’s grant funding our digital marketing program:
- Elevated awareness of the Sub Branch’s online presence and services
- Improved accessibility to information, welfare and contact support via a 24/7 digital platform
- Demonstrated the Committee’s commitment to modern, accessible communication and engagement with members and the broader veteran community
SEO Strategy and Goals
The detailed SEO objectives included:
- Improving search engine visibility for veterans’ support services, community events, major events such as ANZAC Day Commemoration, our related partners, and RSL merchandise
- Driving qualified organic traffic from the Bass Coast region and across Australia, particularly for Sub Branch welcomes to Veterans, our merchandise and donation-related searches
- Increasing enquiries for hall hire, memberships, and donations, as well as boosting online shop sales
- Expanding keyword coverage for both event-related and merchandise-based searches
- Optimising content for AI-driven search results and featured info ‘snippets’ particularly for historical and informational topics

We are pleased to share the recent performance updates and key insights that reflect the steady progress of our SEO efforts and promotion of www.wonthaggirsl.org.au.
Key Highlights:
- Massive Growth: Our total visitor count increased significantly this month, growing more than 11 times compared to October, indicating strong momentum in overall website visibility.
- SEO Is Working: A growing number of users are discovering our website through organic Google searches, i.e. without any paid advertising. Organic searches alone brought in 101 visitors, reinforcing the effectiveness of ongoing SEO activities
- Fresh Faces: We reached 153 new users who’ve interacted with our Sub Branch for the first time, demonstrating an expanding online reach and improved discoverability.
- Active Interest: Visitors are actively engaging with the website, completing 700+ interactions such as scrolling through services and clicking key elements, which reflects strong content relevance and user experience.
- Where People Are Looking:
The “Front Door”: The Homepage continues to be the most visited page with 236 views and a high engagement rate, showing that users find the first impression both appealing and informative. - Phones First: Around 74% of visitors are accessing the site via mobile devices, confirming that our mobile optimisation strategy is delivering positive results to validate the Committee’s decision to launch our new website www.wonthaggirsl.org.au

SEO Progress & Next Steps:
This growth represents the first phase of SEO success, where our focus has been on improving visibility, driving organic traffic, and increasing Veteran the Membership and user engagement. As a result, the website has seen a noticeable rise in visitors, stronger organic presence, and higher interaction levels—helping establish trust with search engines to successfully promote Wonthaggi RSL Sub Branch support for Veterans Welfare and presence within this community.
